Jarrah is commonly used for timber flooring and outdoor furniture because of its robust and practical qualities— reflective of both Australia’s rugged landscape and its broader culture. Yet within that harshness lies a kind of tenderness; The ‘Shychair’ embodies both of these traits.

Condition

Materials were taken from a very old carpenters workbench, they were professionally machined for new use - this revealed defects such as checks (tiny cracks/stripes along the grain) and gumveins. These were intentionally unfilled, carefully selected (as not to compromise structural integrity) and included in the final design. The piece embraces imperfections; different toned components, varying levels of coarseness on surfaces, some scratches and gaps.
