1800s Aubusson Tapestry, France

A genuine 19th-century Aubusson tapestry, meticulously handwoven in wool and silk. Its composition centres on a stork amid a woodland backdrop, expressed in muted camel and olive-green hues, a scarce and sought-after colourway within the Aubusson tradition.

Originally purchased at Doyle Auctions in New York, this impressive tapestry is newly cleaned and restored by an Australian expert in antique textiles. It has a new backing system and is ready for install. 

Due to its impressive height, the tapestry is ideal for spaces with high ceilings or for hanging in a stairwell. If required, it can also be shortened: the design includes natural visual break-points that allow the piece to be cropped from the lower section, with the trim re-set seamlessly.

Authentic Aubusson tapestries such as this are generally priced at around the $20,000-25,000 mark.
