A rare and highly collectible set of six original 'Africa' dining chairs designed by legendary Italian duo Afra & Tobia Scarpa and produced by Zanotta, Italy. Crafted in the 1970s, these sculptural chairs are celebrated for their elegant combination of solid turned timber frames and thick saddle leather sling seats and backs, embodying the refined craftsmanship and timeless modernism for which the Scarpas are renowned. The Africa chair remains one of the defining Italian designs of the era and is increasingly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Each chair retains its original Zanotta maker's stamp ("ZANOTTA MADE IN ITALY"), confirming authenticity. The warm timber frames have developed a beautiful vintage patina, while the original grey leather displays the honest wear expected from nearly 50 years of use.

Condition

This is an original vintage set sold in as-found condition.

• 5 chairs are structurally sound and fully functional.
  
• 1 chair is included for restoration or parts. It requires new leather (seat and support straps) but retains the complete timber frame and components.
• Original grey saddle leather throughout.
• Leather shows significant age-related wear including scratches, scuffs, creasing and patina.
• One chair has a tear through the seat leather.
• Timber frames show general wear, knocks and scratches consistent with age.
