Very large table, perfect for an office or large entertaining space.
The table top is made entirely from timbers pulled from houses in Melbourne while renovating and extending. The majority of the timber would have been logged and initially built with around 80 years ago, felled from trees that would likely have been centuries old. The only way to get timber like that now is to salvage from older projects. The majority of the timber used is stringybark (messmate) with some Victorian mountain ash. The table is made from 62 pieces of timber.
The black comes from a process called ebonizing, where iron is dissolved in vinegar then painted on. The solution reacts with the tannin rich timber and goes black. The protective finish is a hard wax oil.

Condition
Base is metal and 2nd hand. Top is custom made from a local carpenter. Small signs of wear on the top, but still in beautiful condition. The table top breaks down into three large pieces, base separates into two pieces.
